From their founding in the aftermath of disaster they grew into a national bulwark against threats mundane and supernatural. The Order formally chartered with royal sanction 232 years ago, earning renown for ending the Scarwood Beast Wars. Internal schisms arose after a scandal 78 years ago when a favored captain tried to annex an entire border county. Reforms followed, codified in the Charter of Tempered Oaths which balanced authority with oversight. Since then the Order expanded into a network of precinct houses across the kingdom, intervening in uprisings, inspecting arcane academies when summoned, and helping the Crown during the War of the Three Princes where they held the pass of Yssal. The recent decades have seen them embroiled in controversies - some justified, some manufactured - but the Order remains an essential pillar of national defense and moral authority.

Founder’s Story

Three centuries ago a time of plague, brigandry, and demoralized garrisons prompted a holy blacksmith, a captain of the King's Watch, and a cloistered healer to bind together sworn brothers and sisters sworn to shield the weak. They forged a code written on steel plates and unified scattered militias into an organized knightly force sworn to the Crown and the Common Good.
