Founder’s Story

The Order began when Sister Mave of Tharlinn, a disgraced surgeon and itinerant healer, survived a fatal wasting fever that consumed an entire coastal village. In the fever's delirium she experienced a joy of decay and renewal and claimed a vision of a green-bearded healer who taught her to both ease suffering and carry the sickness that refines communities. Mave gathered survivors, ex-soldiers and disgraced apothecaries. They combined pragmatic caregiving with rituals that encouraged selective contagion to test immunities. A watershed moment came in Year 18 after founding when the Order saved a provincial capital from starvation by deliberately spreading a mild rot that reduced crop pests and produced a glut of stored grain. The city rewarded them with a charter that allowed them to operate openly if they registered patients. That charter turned a ragtag congregation into a kingdom-wide power and put them on the map politically.
