Its story
A broad, heavy shield built from overlapping plates of petrified serpent skin. Each gray-green scale is veined with mineral glimmers, and black shadow-obsidian bindings curl around the rim like coiled fangs. Its inner face is rough and warm to the touch, carrying the faint scent of wet stone and sulfur.
Lore
In the Maw of Siss'tha, where mineralized cliffs shed flakes into emerald depths, the shield is called a promise of survival: even stone can leave its old shape behind. Its surface is said to remember the pressure of the chasm and the patience of the serpent shrines that line its walls.
History
According to Serpent-Kin shrine keepers, the shield was made from the cast-off stone hide of a guardian that survived the Maw’s ancient collapse. It passed between ledge-camps and workshops as a ward against the chasm’s dangers. The names of its later wielders have worn away, but a trail of chipped stone scales marks the places where it saved them.
