A compact field journal bound in dark brown leather, its cover embossed with a gingerbread cottage surrounded by thorny vines. The clasp is made from blackened iron shaped like a tiny oven door, and a red thread marks the page where Hansel vanished. Its pages are thick, faintly sweet-smelling, and covered in a mixture of cramped handwriting, charcoal sketches, coded trail signs, witch-hunting protocols, and diagrams of magical wards. When opened near active magic, small flecks of golden dust rise from the paper and arrange themselves around the relevant entries.
