Its story
A thumb-sized piece of polished onyx is carved into a closed eye, its lids delicately etched with silver that has darkened almost to black. It hangs from a fine funerary chain and feels cool even beside a fire. A tiny silver teardrop is set beneath the carved eye, like a drop of mourning that never falls.
Lore
Among the congregation’s remnants, the closed eye became a sign of peaceful passage. Some mourners still believe that wearing one helps the living notice when the dead have not truly gone.
History
The pendant was recovered from the altar of the Veiled Eye’s Fallen Congregation, where it had rested among funeral offerings. The cult placed such ornaments on the dead, believing the closed eye would help the departed pass unseen by hungry spirits.
