Its story
A dozen deep-blue sapphires, each wrapped in a scrap of faded velvet and stamped with the same old royal inventory mark. Their facets catch the light like windows into a midnight sky. When one is held, its velvet stirs as if brushed by a passing breeze, and a pinpoint of blue light appears at the bearer’s intended destination.
Lore
Court tradition claims the High Vault’s couriers carried these stones to cross the palace instantly when the king’s safety was at stake. Their inventory mark is recognized by archivists as proof that the gems belonged to the crown, though it offers no claim to ownership under any surviving law.
History
The sapphires were catalogued among the treasures of the High Vault, the private royal collection beneath the palace. During the Fall of the Eternal King, the vault was looted and its contents scattered. These twelve stones remained wrapped and stamped, ready for use by couriers entrusted with urgent messages.
