Hathea Conflux

Scholars of Hathea tell of once-hidden rites that bound wayward elemental and spirit energies into service. When those bindings fray the energies can recombine into living storms called Confluxes. The strongest are never purely elemental. They hum with devoured memories and can mimic voices of the dead to lure prey.

Soulwell Aura. Auras of Hathea. The Conflux radiates a 30-foot aura. While inside the aura hostile creatures have disadvantage on concentration checks and spells of 1st or 2nd level cast within the aura have their save DC reduced by 1. The aura is suppressed while the Conflux is incapacitated.
Consume. When the Conflux reduces a creature to 0 hit points it devours a sliver of the creature's soul. The Conflux gains 1 Surge and heals 10 hit points. If the creature was a spellcaster the Conflux gains 1 additional Surge.
Elemental Anchorage. If the Conflux is in its lair it regains 10 hit points at the start of each of its turns. Outside its lair this reduces to 5 hit points if ambient ley energy is present.
Radiant Vulnerability. The Conflux is vulnerable to radiant damage. When it takes radiant damage it takes an extra 7 () radiant damage and any Surge it currently holds is lost.
Absorb Magic. The Conflux can attempt to absorb incoming spells. When it is targeted by a spell of 3rd level or higher it can use its Reaction to make a Constitution saving throw. On a failure the spell proceeds normally. On a success the Conflux negates the spell and gains 1 Surge. It can absorb at most one spell per round.
Surge Meter. The Conflux can hold up to 3 Surges. When it uses Soul Surge it expends all Surges. The damage and secondary effects of Soul Surge scale by the number of Surges expended: 1 Surge none extra, 2 Surges double the stun duration and add 10 damage, 3 Surges add 20 damage and creatures that fail their save are also grappled by spectral tendrils and restrained for 1 round on a failed Strength check.
Multiattack. The conflux makes two Slam attacks and then uses Soul Surge if available.
Slam. Melee Weapon Attack: to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 20 () bludgeoning damage plus 14 () necrotic or elemental damage. The Hathea Conflux chooses whether the secondary damage is fire, cold, lightning, or necrotic when it appears and can switch the elemental type on its turn as part of a move. If the target is reduced to 0 hit points by this attack, the Conflux immediately heals 10 hit points and grows a little, regaining 5 temporary hit points (these do not stack).
Soul Surge. The Conflux expends a built-up Surge to unleash a wave of elemental and soul energy in a 60-foot cone. Each creature in that area must make a Constitution saving throw, taking 45 () mixed damage on a failed save, or half as much on a success. Mixed damage is split equally between the Conflux's chosen element type (fire, cold, or lightning) and necrotic damage. Creatures that fail by 5 or more are also stunned until the end of the Conflux's next turn. After using Soul Surge, the Conflux's Surge meter resets to 0.
Surging Bolt. Ranged Spell Attack: to hit, range 120 ft., one target. Hit: 22 () force or elemental damage (Conflux chooses type) plus the target gains a Soul Taint (see Traits).
Spectral Veil. When a creature within 30 feet deals radiant damage to the Conflux the Conflux can curl a veil of spectral smoke, gaining resistance to that damage type until the start of its next turn.
Soul Lash (Costs 2 Actions). Soul Lash. The Conflux lashes out with a tendril of soul energy. Melee Spell Attack: to hit, reach 20 ft., one target. Hit: 18 () necrotic damage and the target must succeed on a Wisdom save or have their speed reduced by half until the end of their next turn.
Shift. Shift. The Conflux moves up to half its fly speed without provoking opportunity attacks.
Consume Spark (Costs 3 Actions). Consume Spark. The Conflux forcibly drains a small amount of magic from one creature concentrating on a spell within 60 feet. The target must succeed on a Constitution save or lose concentration and the Conflux gains 1 Surge. On a success the target maintains concentration but takes 14 () psychic damage.
Cantrips
Innate SpellcastingUniversal The Conflux can cast these spells innately, requiring no components. Attack bonus listed where applicable. At will: detect magic, mage hand (visual only, ghostly manipulator), produce flame. 3/day each: dispel magic, thunderwave (as 3rd-level), enchantment of one memory (as the modify memory spell but limited to removing one unpleasant memory from a willing creature). 1/day each: blight, cone of cold, chain lightning.
