Ankheg queens are rarely seen because their colonies usually remain beneath fields, roads, and ruins. This queen established the Buried Hive after discovering a forgotten library sealed beneath the dungeon. The hive absorbed the library's foundations and now uses the bell's vibrations as a colony-wide alarm. Some scholars believe the queen's amber resin is preserving a lost index that identifies the location of a much older buried vault.

Burrower. The queen can burrow through earth, sand, clay, or nonmagical stone while leaving behind a tunnel large enough for a Large creature. She cannot burrow through worked stone, metal, or magically reinforced surfaces.
Hive Constitution. The queen has advantage on saving throws against being poisoned, and she has resistance to poison damage.
Earth Tremor Sense. The queen can pinpoint the location of creatures touching the ground within 60 feet. She cannot use this sense to detect creatures flying, levitating, or otherwise not touching the ground.
Brood Command. While within 30 feet of at least one living ankheg worker, the queen cannot be surprised and has advantage on saving throws against being frightened.
