Maelora N'Kuru
Wizard (Lorehouse of Tides, School of Divination)
Maelora N'Kuru
Species
Human (Riverine N'Kuru culture)
Appearance
Maelora moves like a thought winding through water: sudden, sinuous, and often interrupted by tremors. She wears a patchwork robe of dark indigo and mottled river-silt gray whose hems are weighted with tiny copper rings that tinkle when she paces. Her fingers are ink-stained from constant marginalia; the nails are deliberately clipped unevenly. Across her left temple is a faded burn-scar in the pattern of a crescent—she sometimes tries to hide it beneath a coil of thin brass circlets. Unexpectedly, she keeps one eye perpetually uncovered and staring, while the other is framed by a delicate half-mask of etched mica attached to a chain of braided leather; the uncovered eye is unusually wide and bright, giving her the look of someone who is always listening for a whisper. When calm she tends to sway almost imperceptibly; when alarmed she snaps into jerky, decisive moves as if trying to outrun a swarm only she perceives.
“Cadenced and clipped, with sudden lapses into tangents. Uses nautical metaphors from growing up by the river and often ends sentences with a quiet, almost pleading aside.”

Distinguishing Features
Crescent-shaped burn scar on left temple
Ink-stained fingertips and palms
Half-face mica mask over the right eye
Tiny copper rings sewn into robe hem that jingle with footsteps
Voice
“Medium alto with a dry rasp when tired; often punctuated by a short, involuntary whistle when surprised. Speaks quickly when excited, measuredly when calculating risk.”
Clothing
Layered robe of indigo and silt-gray, brass circlet bracelets, a leather satchel of patched vellum and bone fastenings, soft-soled boots adapted for mud and floorboards, and a scarf threaded with charms (a small glass vial of riverwater, a brass key, a scrap of a page from a lost book).
Body Language
Sways slightly when listening, flicks fingers to 'count' unseen margins, steps backward when someone raises a hand toward a book she holds, and taps her index and middle finger together when composing a spell or thought.
