Zahra Vara
Species
Air Genasi
Appearance
Zahra is a broad-shouldered air genasi woman whose presence seems to alter the room's pressure. Her sun-weathered skin carries faint pearl-gray swirls along the throat and wrists, like wind trapped beneath stone. Her sharp eyes are the color of rain seen through canyon dust, constantly measuring exits, loyalties, and the distance between a threat and a bystander. Silver threads run through her black hair, which she ties back with a braided leather cord strung with tiny brass trade weights. She moves with deliberate economy, never wasting a gesture, yet loose fabric and hair often stir around her in a breeze no one else can feel. Her voice is gentle, her hands are scarred, and her smile is unexpectedly shy for someone who has stared down armed monopolists and won.
“Her words arrive softly and precisely, shaped by long experience speaking through wind. She favors short sentences, practical metaphors, and questions that expose who bears the risk.”

Distinguishing Features
A thin white scar crosses the bridge of her nose from a snapped glider line.
A brass trade weight is braided into her hair for every settlement that signed the first Compact.
Dust sometimes rises around her ankles even indoors.
Her left thumb is permanently stained blue-black from the original charter ink.
She wears a broken harness buckle belonging to her dead brother beneath her collar.
Voice
“A low contralto with a dry warmth, like wind passing over sun-heated stone. In battle it becomes a steady command that carries through screams, wings, and collapsing rigging.”
Clothing
Wind-worn travel robes patched with colored symbols from independent canyon settlements, a heavy wool weather-cloak lined with concealed pockets, reinforced desert boots, fingerless climbing gloves, and a faded blue sash bearing the first ink marks of the Open Sky Compact
Body Language
Zahra keeps one hand near her signal staff and the other open at waist height, palm upward, as though making room for someone else's answer. During negotiations she leans forward slightly, forcing others to lower their voices. When a civilian is threatened, her posture becomes still and vertical, her shoulders squared while a dry wind begins to coil around her boots.
