Tibor Kresch
Ferry clerk and river watcher
Tibor Kresch
Species
Human
Appearance
Tibor looks as if the river has taught him to distrust every flat surface. He waits with his weight settled on the balls of his feet, knees soft, torso subtly angled as though balancing on a rocking deck. His movements are economical and quiet, except for the constant little check of a brass tide gauge at his belt. His wool sleeves are polished smooth at the cuffs from years of wet rope, and his hands smell faintly of tar, mint, and river silt. Unexpectedly, he keeps a tiny, immaculate paper flower tucked into his cap, replacing it whenever it wilts.
“Low, steady, and economical. He speaks in short observations, with pauses to listen to the water.”

Distinguishing Features
Stands with his weight forward and knees loose, even on dry ground.
Checks the brass tide gauge at his belt without seeming to notice he is doing it.
Wears a tiny paper flower in his cap and replaces it before it gets shabby.
His sleeves are polished smooth at the cuffs from repeated rope work.
Voice
“A low, dry baritone with a little rasp from damp mornings and river fog. He rarely raises it; when he does, the whole dock hears him.”
Clothing
A patched river-green coat with a high collar, thick wool trousers, tar-dark boots, and a faded cap. His pockets hold waxed record slips, chalk, and spare cord. The coat is practical, but the paper flower in his cap is kept astonishingly crisp.
Body Language
Keeps his knees loose and his weight forward, like someone expecting the dock to shift. While listening, he glances at the water rather than the speaker, and his thumb repeatedly checks the tide gauge at his belt.
