Mera Venneck
Gate Marshal
Mera Venneck
Species
Human
Appearance
Mera is a broad-shouldered, muscular woman whose movements are economical enough to seem rehearsed. Her dark blond hair is shaved close on the left side and drawn into three tight braids on the right, each braid threaded with a dull iron ring taken from a demolished prison gate. Her face is square and weathered, with a pale scar running from the corner of her mouth to her jaw and a small notch missing from her right eyebrow. Her hands are callused, her nails kept short, and her posture gives the impression of a locked door. She moves with surprising gentleness around children, frightened animals, and the injured. The contradiction is unsettling: despite her intimidating build and severe uniform, she has the careful, almost delicate gait of someone accustomed to carrying sleeping infants.
“Low, measured, and unhurried. Mera speaks as though every word is being entered into a permanent record.”

Distinguishing Features
A pale scar from the corner of her mouth to her jaw
A notched right eyebrow
Three braids threaded with iron rings from a demolished prison gate
Tarnished thistle-leaf badges polished only on their raised edges
A habit of tilting her head slightly when someone changes their story

“A low contralto with a dry rasp, like a whetstone drawn over metal”
Clothing
A deep purple longcoat hangs over layered brigandine armor, its hem darkened by rain and road dust. She wears black gloves, dark trousers tucked into reinforced boots, weathered silver badges shaped like thistle leaves, silver collar pins, and a black half-cloak marked with her officer rank. The coat is carefully mended in several places with violet thread that does not quite match.
Body Language
Mera stands squarely, keeps her hands visible, and turns her entire body toward whoever is speaking. When someone lies, she becomes almost motionless. When genuinely moved, she rubs the iron ring at the end of her smallest braid.
