Appearance
Tova Hedd is a compact dwarf woman with the dense, grounded presence of a sack of grain dropped onto a tavern bench. She moves with a courier's efficient economy, never taking two steps when one will do, yet her hands are perpetually careful, as if every object might contain something fragile. Her braided beard is short and neatly divided into three cords, an old-fashioned style among her relatives, while her cropped copper hair sticks up in soft, stubborn tufts. The unexpected thing about her is her delicacy: she handles cups, letters, and frightened animals with astonishing gentleness, even though she looks built to split firewood. Before speaking, she gives a slow nasal inhale and taps one thumb twice against the mug in her hands. People notice her stillness first, then realize she has already mapped every exit.
“Low, dry, and carefully paced, with a faint musical lilt that bends certain vowels longer than expected. Her words often arrive after a measured inhale and two taps of her thumb against the mug.”

Distinguishing Features
Her hands remain wrapped around her mug long after the drink is gone, as though warmth is a promise she refuses to release.
Her beard is divided into three neat cords held by tiny brass clasps engraved with route numbers.
She carries a permanent scent of rain-damp wool, sealing wax, and strong black tea.
She makes almost no sound while walking, despite her sturdy build and heavy equipment.
A small folded map is stitched into the inner cuff of her coat, and she checks it by touch whenever she is anxious.
Voice
“A husky contralto with the rasp of wool dragged over stone. She sounds half asleep until a crisis begins, at which point every word becomes sharp, exact, and impossible to ignore.”
Clothing
A faded umber traveling coat patched with mismatched cloth from twelve different regions, a slate-gray vest, sturdy trousers, wool socks, and soft-soled road boots. Her belt carries sealed pouches, chalk, wax, thread, and a small brass route counter.
Body Language
Tova sits squarely with both boots planted and both hands wrapped around her mug, even when it is empty. Her shoulders sag with genuine exhaustion, but her eyes remain alert. When someone lies, she stops blinking for several seconds. When someone is kind, she looks away and begins polishing an already clean piece of cutlery.
