Vaerix Ember-Soot
Alchemist and Retired Traveling Artificer
Vaerix Ember-Soot
Species
Aged bronze dragonborn
Appearance
Vaerix is a broad, weathered dragonborn whose bronze scales have dulled to the color of old pennies, with green patina gathering around his joints and along the ridges of his jaw. His hide is rough in places, polished smooth in others from years of leaning over workbenches. A pale lightning scar cuts across his left cheek and disappears beneath one eye. He moves with the deliberate care of a craftsman carrying a full tray of glass, yet his hands can suddenly snap into motion with startling precision. His tail, short and heavy, drags softly across the floorboards and leaves faint streaks of soot. He smells of rain, singed citrus peel, medicinal alcohol, and warm metal. The contradictory impression he leaves is that of a frail old shopkeeper who could either collapse over his ledger or dismantle a siege engine before anyone finishes blinking.
“His voice is a gravelly baritone with a faint metallic resonance, as though spoken through a copper pipe. He speaks slowly when explaining a formula and very quickly when something is about to explode.”

Voice
“A gravelly, measured baritone with metallic resonance, dry humor, and sudden bursts of youthful excitement”
Clothing
A soot-black leather apron hangs over layered teal shopkeeper's robes, each pocket labeled in tiny brass lettering. He wears copper spectacles with three interchangeable lenses, fingerless gloves stitched with silver wire, reinforced travel boots, and a faded crimson scarf once belonging to his lost caravan.
Body Language
Vaerix keeps one hand resting on his cane or a nearby workbench, as though subtly testing the stability of the world. He angles his head toward sounds rather than turning fully, and his tail taps in different rhythms to signal amusement, suspicion, or danger. When discussing someone he loves, he polishes a scale on his knuckle with his thumb.
