Zarvok Threx
Artificer
Zarvok Threx
Species
Void Wasp
Appearance
Zarvok Threx stands on four wasp-like legs, each jointed limb ending in hooked black tarsi that click against stone as he walks. His broad lower abdomen hangs behind him like a lacquered reliquary, striped in dull sulfur-yellow and oil-black bands, with a narrow seam that opens when he deploys chemical sprayers or stores delicate instruments. His upper body is vaguely humanoid, though stretched and angular, with two unnervingly thin arms ending in long, dexterous hands made for soldering, incision, and disassembly. Two sets of mandibles frame his mouth. The outer pair are heavy and serrated, while the inner pair are small, pale, and almost human in their careful movements. His wings are translucent and veined with violet light, but one wing beats slightly out of rhythm, giving his flight a lurching, impatient quality. His chitin is polished around the shoulders and abdomen from centuries of handling tools, while the legs are roughened by void dust and corrosive portal residue. The unexpected softness of his appearance is a small woolen scarf tucked beneath his thorax plates, knitted in a child's uneven pattern. Zarvok treats it as a practical thermal garment and becomes violently evasive if anyone asks who made it.
“His voice is a dry, layered rasp produced by the inner mandibles, with a faint metallic resonance from the artificial plates in his throat. He speaks quickly when excited, slowly when threatening someone, and in a nearly toneless whisper when discussing his depression.”

Distinguishing Features
Two sets of mandibles, with the smaller inner pair moving almost delicately while he speaks.
A large striped lower abdomen fitted with retractable chemical sprayers and brass inspection plates.
A violet-lit wing vein that pulses in time with nearby planar instability.
A small gray scarf knitted in an obviously uneven childlike pattern.
Hands stained with permanent blue-black resin, especially beneath the nails and around the knuckles.
A habit of turning his entire head slightly sideways before delivering an insult.
Voice
“A dry, papery baritone layered with clicks and faint electrical buzzing, as though an irritated scholar were speaking through a resonating metal hive.”
Clothing
A sleeveless harness of stitched leather and copper mesh wraps around his thorax. Small glass ampoules, tuning forks, folded star charts, and surgical tools hang from it. He wears a cracked brass monocle over one compound eye cluster and a small gray woolen scarf beneath his plates.
Body Language
Zarvok keeps his abdomen angled away from strangers, presenting his narrow side profile as though perpetually preparing to flee or strike. His human-like hands move constantly, aligning tools, tapping measurements, or grooming specks from his chitin. When angry, his wings vibrate without lifting him and his inner mandibles click in a rapid, metronomic pattern. When exhausted, all four legs fold inward and his arms hang loose, making him look briefly like a discarded scientific instrument.
