Jala bint-Kian
Relic Scholar
Jala bint-Kian
Species
Fire Genasi
Appearance
Jala is a lean fire genasi woman whose copper-brown skin glows faintly at the throat, knuckles, and temples as though lit from beneath by banked coals. Her hair erupts in a wild black-red halo, each unruly curl tipped with tiny orange sparks that snap louder when she is excited or angry. Her sharp eyes are a mocking amber, bright enough to make prolonged eye contact feel like being examined under a lamp. She moves with restless, birdlike precision, constantly pivoting around obstacles and reaching for tools before anyone realizes she needs them. Her fingers are permanently stained with blue-black ink, but the nails of her left hand are polished with silver dust for testing magical residue. Despite her volatile appearance, she has an unexpectedly soft, almost timid smile when handling injured animals or frightened children.
“Rapid, articulate, and edged with delighted contempt. Jala speaks in clipped bursts when excited, stretches words into theatrical politeness when mocking authority, and drops into a low whisper whenever discussing a relic's true name.”

Distinguishing Features
Hair that spits sparks when she is agitated
A crescent-shaped burn scar across her left palm
Ink-stained fingertips with silver-polished nails
A blue childhood scarf wrapped around her wrist beneath one sleeve
A brass relic case that hums softly near powerful magic
Voice
“A bright contralto with a dry rasp, as if every sentence has passed through smoke. Her laugh is sudden, loud, and genuinely warm, while her anger lowers her voice instead of raising it.”
Clothing
Layered heat-resistant scholar's robes in charcoal, rust, and faded saffron, reinforced with ceramic thread and lined with dozens of internal padded pouches. She wears a short tool apron, soft leather field boots, fingerless gloves, a scorched blue scarf from her brother's childhood, and a broad brass case secured by a magnetic seal.
Body Language
Jala rarely stands still. She rocks on the balls of her feet, circles tables while thinking, and gestures with tools as if conducting an invisible orchestra. When genuinely frightened, she becomes perfectly motionless and folds both hands over the brass relic case.
