Appearance
A young woman who seems taller whenever she is being watched, Nácara moves with the measured glide of someone crossing a ballroom floor covered in invisible water. Her large umbrella is built from dark walnut ribs and layered peacock feathers, each eye pattern shifting through emerald, sapphire, and old gold as rain slides across it. The canopy often hides the upper half of her face, leaving only the lower curve of her cheek and the deliberate line of her mouth visible. Her hands are unusually noticeable: broad-palmed, ink-stained, and roughened at the fingertips from years of repairing lantern mechanisms and fastening tiny metal clasps. Her presence is elegant but not delicate. When startled, her cultivated whisper vanishes and becomes a startlingly deep, almost boyish bark.
“Measured and softly resonant, with carefully chosen words and an almost musical pause before names. Under stress, the breathiness disappears and her voice becomes unexpectedly deep and commanding.”

Distinguishing Features
Her umbrella canopy is covered in living peacock feathers whose eye patterns brighten when she is frightened.
Her voice is normally a low, breathy murmur, but panic causes it to break into a resonant bark.
Her hands are rough, ink-stained, and nicked by tiny brass components from years of lantern repair.
She smells faintly of rain, cedar oil, and hot metal.
She never lets anyone see the upper half of her face for long, even when the umbrella is unnecessary.
Voice
“Normally a low, breathy contralto that seems designed for private conversations beneath rain. When frightened or enraged, she produces a sudden carrying bark that can stop a crowded room.”
Clothing
A flowing deep-green gown layered over a fitted traveling bodice, its hem reinforced against mud and stitched with tiny gold eye patterns. Peacock feathers are woven into the sleeves, collar, and umbrella canopy rather than simply attached as decoration. She wears soft riding boots beneath the gown, a brass key ring at her waist, and a rain-darkened sapphire sash bearing her family's crest. The unexpected detail is a plain homespun apron tied over the back of the gown whenever she repairs equipment.
Body Language
Nácara keeps her umbrella angled just enough to make people lean toward her. Her free hand is usually occupied with a clasp, button, lantern key, or loose thread. When relaxed, she tilts her head toward sounds rather than looking directly at the speaker. When rattled, her shoulders become unnaturally still, her fingers drum a five-beat pattern against the umbrella handle, and her breath catches audibly between words.
