Appearance
Varkhzel stands with the loose, theatrical posture of a man perpetually waiting for applause. His slate-brown skin has a fine texture like weathered river stone, softened by a warm copper flush around the nose and knuckles. Two broad black horns sweep backward from his temples, ridged like old wood and polished at the tips from years of absent-minded rubbing. His jaw is heavy and distinctly goatlike, with square yellow teeth that show whenever he smiles, which is often and never quite reassuring. He takes up more space than his lean frame should allow, leaning across tables, draping himself over chairs, and making every room feel arranged around him. His movements are languid until a performance begins, when he becomes unnervingly quick, springing onto furniture or spinning between seats with dancer's precision. The contradictory detail is his hands: long, elegant, and carefully manicured, yet constantly stained with berry juice, candle soot, or ink from neglected spellbooks.
“Airy, exuberant, and warmly patronizing, with drawn-out greetings and sudden delighted bursts of laughter. When his control slips, his voice becomes low, dry, and startlingly ordinary.”

Distinguishing Features
His lower canine teeth are unusually broad and blunt, giving every smile the appearance of a restrained bite.
He smells faintly of crushed mint, old velvet, and sweet red wine.
His horns are polished by constant touching and carry tiny brass rings that chime only when he is excited.
He unconsciously takes the largest available seat, even when it belongs to someone else.
His shadow occasionally bows a heartbeat after he does.
Voice
“A bright, breathy baritone that sounds permanently delighted, as if every conversation has just exceeded his expectations.”
Clothing
A wine-red velvet coat hangs open over a cream silk shirt embroidered with tiny green apples. He wears layered gold chains, soft black trousers, lacquered ankle boots, and a sash holding small crystal vials of orchard spirits. His cuffs are absurdly ornate, while his boots are practical and scuffed.
Body Language
Varkhzel lounges rather than sits, keeps one knee raised, and angles his horns toward whoever currently holds the room's attention. When pleased, he taps his cane in perfect rhythm with the speaker. When angry, he stops moving entirely and smiles with all his teeth.
