Appearance
Mounir cuts a modest figure at first glance, narrow-shouldered and slightly stooped from decades spent over drafting desks. His face is finely lined around the mouth and brow, with tired eyes magnified by wire spectacles whose bridge has been repaired with red thread. His fingers are permanently stained in layers of blue-black, rust-red, and faded violet ink, while the skin around his nails is cracked from solvent and dust. He moves with the careful, quiet shuffle of a man conserving energy, yet when he spots a forged seal his body changes instantly: his spine straightens, his head tilts like a hunting bird, and one hand becomes utterly still. His tunic smells of paper, cedar shavings, lamp oil, and bitter tea. The unexpected contradiction is that beneath his drab administrative clothing he wears a brilliant saffron silk sash, a private remembrance of his mother, visible only when he reaches or bends.
“Low, dry, and carefully articulated, with a soft rasp from too much tea and too little sleep. He speaks slowly when concealing information and rapidly when genuinely excited by a clever discrepancy.”

Distinguishing Features
Wire spectacles repaired with red thread.
Ink-stained fingers in several colors that never fully wash clean.
A faint crescent-shaped burn on his left wrist from the Ash-Tally Famine archive fire.
A saffron silk sash hidden beneath otherwise drab clothing.
An uncanny habit of noticing when two supposedly identical objects are separated by less than a finger's width.
Voice
“A soft, papery baritone that often sounds apologetic until he begins reading a discrepancy aloud. Then every word becomes clean, cold, and impossible to interrupt.”
Clothing
Dust-grey administrative tunic with reinforced cuffs, a high collar, hidden inner pockets, soft soot-colored shoes, a faded saffron silk sash beneath the tunic, and a weathered leather portfolio packed with tools and forms.
Body Language
Usually folded inward with rounded shoulders and a portfolio held against his ribs, Mounir constantly adjusts his spectacles or rubs ink from his thumb. When lying by omission, he aligns nearby objects into perfect parallel rows. When genuinely frightened, he stops blinking.
