Appearance
Maro Okeon is a broad-shouldered man whose body has been shaped by years of hauling timber, digging irrigation channels, and carrying children out of danger. His hands are split with old cuts, the fingertips darkened by charcoal that never quite washes away. He walks with a slight forward lean, as though bracing against a wind no one else can feel, yet he moves quietly for such a heavy man. His face is weather-beaten and plain at first glance, but one side of his mouth lifts when he is listening, giving him the unsettling appearance of smiling at bad news. He smells faintly of cedar smoke, iron, and the bitter herbs he chews when anxious.
“Low and rough, with a patient rhythm. His voice often drops to a near whisper when he discusses the war, while his laughter arrives suddenly and sounds younger than the rest of him.”

A patched brown wool coat, faded green shirt, rough trousers tucked into cracked leather boots, and a red thread bracelet hidden beneath his left sleeve. His belt carries a small iron cup, a whetstone, and a folded scrap of blue cloth.
Body Language
Maro keeps his shoulders angled toward doors and windows. He rubs his left thumb across the knuckle of his right hand when lying, lowers his chin when angry, and goes perfectly still when someone mentions a burning village. Around children, his hands remain open and visible.
