Kian ibn-Tariq
Civic Agitator
Kian ibn-Tariq
Species
Human
Appearance
Kian is a lean, sun-browned man with the wiry strength of someone who has hauled ropes, climbed sluice ladders, and slept on warehouse roofs. His movements are quick and economical until anger catches him, at which point he becomes all elbows, forward momentum, and dangerous certainty. His hands are permanently roughened, with crescent scars around the knuckles and green canal silt embedded beneath several fingernails. He smiles like a tavern host while delivering accusations that could ruin a magistrate. The unexpected contradiction is his immaculate left ear, which he keeps polished and adorned with a tiny silver bell, while the rest of him is usually stained with ink, dust, or canal water.
“A resonant baritone with a dry, musical cadence. Kian speaks quickly when excited, slows to deliberate syllables when making a threat, and pronounces names with unusual care.”
Alignment
Distinguishing Features
A tiny silver bell pierced through his left ear that never seems to ring when he moves.
A pale rope-burn scar circling his right wrist.
A brass canal badge dented by a cudgel during his first public protest.
One front tooth capped in green-glazed ceramic after a magistrate's guard struck him.
He carries himself like a performer even when exhausted, making every turn of the head seem deliberate.
Voice
“Warm, carrying, and slightly rough, like a brass horn wrapped in cloth”
Clothing
A faded green work coat reinforced with leather at the shoulders, rolled linen sleeves, patched charcoal trousers, red sash cords marking his district office, mud-stained boots, and a short mantle bearing the worn leaf emblem of The Green Banner Compact. His brass canal badge is polished brighter than anything else he owns.
Body Language
Kian leans toward people when they speak, as though their words are tools he intends to use. He taps his canal staff against stone in a steady rhythm while thinking. In anger, he stops blinking, lowers his chin, and grips the staff with both hands. When embarrassed, he polishes the silver bell in his ear.
