Appearance
Kettig is a narrow-shouldered, weather-burnished man whose stillness feels more deliberate than rest. His skin is roughened by salt wind and years spent tending exposed signal fires, with fine pale lines at the knuckles and temples from constant smoke and cold. He moves in small, economical adjustments, always turning his whole torso toward a speaker rather than merely his head. In a crowded room, his eyes rarely settle on faces. They track door hinges, roof beams, lamps, hands, and the shadows cast behind other people. His hair is cut close at the sides and left in a stiff gray-brown ridge that smells faintly of peat smoke. The unexpected contradiction is his hands: broad, scarred, and work-worn, yet capable of astonishing gentleness when mending a child's mitten or arranging a dead person's belongings.
“Low, measured, and intimate, as though every conversation is taking place beside a sleeping child. His consonants land sharply, especially on names and promises.”

Distinguishing Features
His gaze constantly maps exits, flames, and the empty spaces behind people.
A faint smell of wet stone and peat clings to him even after washing.
His left sleeve is always fastened with a mismatched child's button painted blue.
He carries a brass key that grows warm whenever someone nearby lies about a promise.
When he is deeply frightened, he smiles with unmistakable tenderness.
Voice
“A dry baritone with a soft rasp, like a match being struck beside a stone wall. When the patron speaks through him, his voice acquires a second timing, with certain words arriving a heartbeat late.”
Clothing
A dark green wool coat patched at both elbows, a charcoal linen shirt, salt-stiff trousers, and soft boots wrapped with red thread at the ankles. He wears a brass watch-key on a cord around his neck, though no lock in the region fits it.
Body Language
He stands with his weight slightly forward, as if listening to someone below the floor. When uneasy, he rubs his thumb across the first knuckle of his opposite hand. When angry, he becomes more courteous rather than louder. He never points at people, only at objects or places beside them.
