Morwen Vance
Species
Dwarf
Appearance
Morwen is a wiry, compact dwarf whose movements are abrupt until she reaches a workbench, where every gesture becomes unnervingly precise. Her singed copper hair is pulled into a practical top-knot threaded with thin brass wire, and soot clings permanently to the fine creases beside her nose. Protective crystal lenses magnify her sharp hazel eyes, which rarely look at a speaker's face. Instead, they track hands, pockets, buckles, exits, sources of heat, and anything that might break. Her knuckles are ridged with old chemical thickening, while her fingertips are darkened like polished charcoal and shine with embedded metallic dust. She leaves behind the impression of a small furnace forced to walk around in a person's shape. The unexpected contradiction is her immaculate, almost ceremonial fingernails, each one capped with clear alchemical lacquer because she considers chipped nails an unforgivable contamination risk.
“Fast, clipped, and densely technical, with sudden bursts of delighted laughter when something goes dangerously wrong. She speaks as though every sentence is a set of instructions that must survive translation into action.”

Distinguishing Features
Protective crystal lenses that click and refocus whenever she studies a new object.
Hands permanently darkened by metallic dust, with tiny brass calibration marks tattooed along the backs of her fingers.
A brass respirator worn as casually as another dwarf might wear a scarf.
She unconsciously positions herself beside the nearest source of heat.
Her eyes inspect mechanisms and exits before faces, making every meeting feel like an evaluation.
Voice
“A rasping contralto with a furnace-dry edge, punctuated by metallic clicks from the respirator at her neck and sudden bright notes of excitement when discussing unstable materials.”
Clothing
A heavily reinforced leather apron over acid-stained work robes, magnetic gauntlets fitted with fine-manipulation tools, steel-capped boots, a belt of stoppered reagents, and a heavy brass respirator hanging around her neck
Body Language
Morwen leans toward danger rather than away from it. She taps two fingers against nearby metal when thinking, angles her head to listen for structural strain, and freezes completely when an experiment reaches an unexpected stage. In conversation, she often adjusts another person's equipment without asking.
