Appearance
Tavo is a compact river gnome with a broad, pear-shaped torso, springy knees, and hands permanently roughened by rope, wet wood, and onion skins. His smile reveals two oversized lower incisors that overlap like little ivory paddles, giving his laughter a bright, clacking sound. He moves with the careful sideways balance of someone always standing on a rocking deck, even on dry ground. His beard is clipped short except for two stubborn tufts beneath his chin, which he braids with blue thread while thinking. The unexpected thing about him is his immaculate cleanliness: despite living beside a muddy river, he smells faintly of lemon peel, boiled grain, and soap, and he will interrupt a dramatic conversation to rinse a cup before using it.
