The Dawn Orrery
The circular observatory smells of cold iron and rain-wet stone. Brass shutters surround a waist-high lens, and a thin blade of daylight enters through an eastern slit even though no windows are visible outside. Dust drifts through the beam. When you approach, the lens gives a low, glassy hum; the shutters tremble in their tracks, and four dim star marks on the ceiling blink out of sequence.
