The Three Rivers in Their Proper Course

You enter a circular river-control chamber cut into damp gray stone. Three bronze wheels stand before three shallow basins, while narrow channels cross the floor like veins. Brown, blue, and red water trickles from separate wall pipes, glowing faintly in the mineral light. The wheels groan whenever the water shifts, and each basin bears a different carved river symbol. Above them, a cracked tablet is wet with condensation, but its lettering remains readable.

Discovery

The chamber is a functioning water gate, not a locked door. The three wheels can each be rotated into one of three positions, redirecting the brown, blue, or red stream into a basin. The tablet provides the ordering clue, while matching stains and glyphs reveal which colored water belongs in each basin.

The oldest runs first, dark beneath the reed.
The giver follows, clear beneath the spring.
The cleanser runs last, bright beneath the stone.

Do not trust the painted colors alone. Trust what the water leaves behind.

Earth keeps the memory of the oldest.
Cold keeps the memory of the giver.
Iron keeps the memory of the cleanser.
