The Ashen Concordance

You enter a circular dungeon chamber where the air tastes of old smoke and winter stone. A sealed basalt door fills the far wall, its four rings of carved symbols turning slowly beneath a skin of frost. Gray ash drifts upward from a silver-lined basin instead of falling. Above the door, a stone face watches with shut lips. Every few breaths, one ring shudders and a faint sound answers it: heartbeat, whisper, sob, or funeral bell. A poem glitters on the wall, and a narrow silver key rests in a niche below it.

When the first small heart beats beneath the soil, Give it no crown, no sword, no claim to toil. Let the pale seed lie sleeping in the dark, Until the buried world remembers its first spark.

When breath grows thin and footsteps lose their weight, Follow the moth through the narrowing gate. It drinks the dusk, it wears the dust, it knows That every road from waking bends and slows.

When grief has made a chapel of the tongue, Speak the name that time has left unsung. A face may fade, a bone may turn to stone, But what is named is never quite alone.

When all the doors are shut against the day, Lay down the grave and do not turn away. The bell will sound, the ash will cease to rise, And silence will unlock what silence hides.
