The Axe's Rest
The Axe's Rest was built where a dense stand of ash trees once crowded against the southern road into Lorience. The first mercenary owners cleared the grove with axes, burned the roots, and used the timber for the original beams. Their sign showed a single axe laid across a bedroll, and the name survived even after the founding company vanished. Over the years, the tavern became a gathering place for inexperienced mercenaries, failed apprentices, discharged soldiers, and adventurers who had more courage than contracts. Its reputation grew because those who found work here often returned to hire the next uncertain band of hopefuls.
