Quirks

The floor slopes toward the harbor, so every loose coin slowly rolls beneath the bar. The keeper hangs a new piece of driftwood above the hearth whenever a regular dies at sea. During heavy rain, the pub's walls creak in rhythm with the waves, and everyone inside pauses to listen. No patron is allowed to whistle, because the keeper insists it calls gulls, bad luck, and worse things.

Lore

Pier Nine is known as a practical first stop for deckhands, fishers, messengers, and adventurers who have just come ashore. Older sailors claim the foundation stones came from a much earlier quay, and that hollow spaces beneath the pub connect to forgotten drainage tunnels. No one agrees whether that is history, superstition, or an invitation to go looking.
