The Lanterned Pike
Built when Silverford Crossing grew from a ford-side camp into a guarded river stop, the tavern began as a cookhouse for bridge crews and toll clerks. Over the years it became the village’s safest warm room, the place where wagoners dried out, boatmen waited out fog, and the bridge guards took their mugs while pretending not to listen. Every generation has added another beam, plank, or nail, and the old inn still smells faintly of smoke, wet rope, and river trout.
