Vorlag Prime

Every hard-won breath belongs to the one who can keep it.

Overview

Vorlag Prime, called Grath-Ka’Vol in Varkalan records, is a scorched iron world where the true settlements lie deep below ground. Nine million Varkalans live in independent clans, each competing for fissures, water vapor, and relic vaults. They regard hardship as proof of worth, yet their customs also protect a fragile balance: the crystal spires that tame the surface storms feed the same power needed by cavern cities. The Iron Citadel hosts uneasy negotiations, never lasting rule.

The world

ShapeA round world
What it is likeA single iron-rich planet with a thin atmosphere, a cracked surface, and extensive inhabited caverns beneath it.
How people travelTravel between cavern regions by pressurized tunnel, lift shaft, or clan-controlled rail; surface crossings require flare forecasts, protective gear, and safe routes between fissures.

Laws of the world

The rules

MagicCommon magic draws on heat, crystal conductors, and disciplined breath; it can shape barriers, redirect energy, and temper wounds, but demands a physical cost.
TechnologyFuturistic bio-reactors, pressure-sealed tunnels, mining rigs, and ancient vault machinery are common underground, though most clans repair rather than manufacture the rarest systems.
Death and soulsVarkalans believe the dead return to the deep stone; bodies are cremated in clan furnaces, and no proven spirit has ever answered a call.

Special rules

Crystal spires can steer storms and flare energy, but a damaged network may turn that force toward inhabited caverns.
Every visitor must face the Gauntlet of Acknowledgment, a painful test whose challenge need not involve combat.

The skies

SkiesThe thin rust-colored sky flashes white during frequent stellar flares; from the surface, dust veils the small moon and the crystal spires glow at night.
Moons and stars
  • Vorlag's flare-star, called the Scorch

SeasonsA day lasts just under thirty hours, and there are no mild seasons; clans mark time by flare cycles, when surface travel becomes especially dangerous.
