The World

Knot is a round world held together by promises. Ancient roads and boundary stones do more than guide travelers: they anchor fields, towns, rivers, and sometimes whole coastlines. When rulers, guilds, or villages break sworn terms, the land loosens around them. Most people treat oath magic as an old superstition until a road moves overnight or a disputed border cuts through a house. Adventurers travel between uneasy regions, settling claims, exposing fraud, and deciding which promises deserve to hold.

Form · Sphere

Knot is a spherical planet with familiar seas, continents, and climates, but its settled regions are held in place by roads, boundary stones, and shared promises.

Traversal

Travel follows roads, rivers, coasts, and mountain passes, though broken oaths can create detours, sealed crossings, or temporary new routes.

Secrets

The ancient road network is one enormous spell, built from the bones of a dead civilization.

Discovery · The oldest boundary stones bear identical tool marks beneath layers of later carving.

Impact · The world was not naturally bound, and the first surveyors may have forced its geography into obedience.

The first boundaries were created through agreements between living communities and the dead.

Discovery · Souls on old roads repeat fragments of promises no living witness remembers.

Impact · Recovering the original vows could stabilize the world, but it would also restore laws that stripped entire peoples of their land.

The Unsworn League has found a way to make written lies physically contagious.

Discovery · A false map causes a small patch of countryside to repeat the same mile forever.

Impact · Someone is deliberately falsifying maps to weaken the world’s bindings and create a realm beyond all law.
