Sanguine Resurrectionist

Sanguine Resurrectionists are battlefield physicians, occult anatomists, and practical blood magicians who treat the boundary between life and death as a technical problem. By mixing their own enchanted blood with the fresh dead, they create short-lived servants, ambulatory shields, living weapons, medical assistants, and unstable biological explosives. Their magic can also clot wounds, purge toxins, and restore vitality to the living, but every miracle spends the same finite resource: the Resurrectionist's own blood.

Spellcasting & Powers

Blood magic and corpse animation. The Sanguine Resurrectionist does not use a conventional spell list; abilities consume Blood Reserve and usually require a full action, a fresh corpse, medical equipment, or a successful Sanguine Arts Test.

Multiclassing

To multiclass into Sanguine Resurrectionist, a character should have Intelligence 40 or higher, Constitution 35 or higher, and at least 30% in First Aid or Medicine. They gain Blood Reserve, Sanguine Anatomy, and Fresh Resurrection, but their total Blood Reserve is reduced by 1 unless Sanguine Resurrectionist is their primary class.

Proficiencies

Light and medium armour, surgical instruments, alchemical equipment, one-handed weapons, improvised medical weapons, First Aid, Medicine, Sanguine Arts, and one of Anatomy, Biology, Herbalism, or Tactics.

Training & Initiation

Training begins with conventional medicine: anatomy, surgery, pathology, and battlefield triage. The apprentice then undergoes controlled bloodletting rites, learns to recognize the final electrical and circulatory patterns of death, and performs a first animation using their own blood. Most traditions require the student to save one life and respectfully release one corpse before they are accepted as a full Resurrectionist.

Societal Perception

Ordinary people often view Sanguine Resurrectionists with a mixture of gratitude and revulsion. Their healing makes them welcome during plagues and wars, while their corpse-servants cause fear, religious condemnation, and accusations of grave desecration. Communities that have survived through their work may defend them fiercely.
