Cultivation Mage

Cultivation Mages are martial mystics who refine body, spirit, and destiny into one weapon. They blend supernatural swordsmanship, internal qi, alchemy, talismans, arrays, divine invocation, and spirit command to overcome foes far stronger than ordinary mortals. A Cultivation Mage is a mobile battlefield controller, striker, and support character whose power grows through deliberate preparation and dramatic bursts of cultivated energy.

Spellcasting & Powers

Qi Spellcasting uses Wisdom and a half-caster spell-slot progression. Cultivation Mage spells are prepared from the Cultivation Mage spell list and may be cast with a martial weapon, calligrapher’s supplies, or alchemist’s supplies as a focus.

Spirit Guardians Summons protective ancestral or elemental manifestations.
Water Breathing A practical cultivation technique for river and sea expeditions.

4th-Level Qi Arts

Dimension Door A powerful transit method using a prepared spatial coordinate.
Elemental Bane Weakens an enemy’s elemental defenses through meridian disruption.
Freedom of Movement Prevents bindings from interrupting the practitioner’s circulation.
Greater Invisibility Conceals the body beneath perfected shadow-stepping qi.

5th-Level Qi Arts

Banishing Smite A sword strike that ejects a creature from the battlefield or plane.
Hold Monster Freezes an enemy by locking its spiritual channels.
Steel Wind Strike A legendary sword technique that crosses multiple distant targets.
Teleportation Circle Establishes a permanent or temporary array-linked transit route.

Multiclassing

Prerequisite: Wisdom 13 and Strength or Dexterity 13. When multiclassing into Cultivation Mage, you gain light armor, medium armor, shields, simple weapons, martial weapons, alchemist’s supplies, and calligrapher’s supplies. Use the multiclass spell-slot rules for half-casters.

Training & Initiation

A candidate begins by opening their first meridian through meditation, controlled breath, and a dangerous rite involving a personal oath. They then learn weapon forms, basic spellcraft, talisman calligraphy, medicinal preparation, and spiritual etiquette under a master, sect, or wandering mentor. Advancement requires surviving breakthroughs, gathering rare materials, and integrating new power without damaging the Core Qi.

Societal Perception

Ordinary people often regard Cultivation Mages with a mixture of awe, fear, and practical gratitude. Villagers seek their pills and exorcisms, nobles compete for their allegiance, and established temples may view their independent divine methods as dangerous arrogance.
