Astral Vanguard

The Astral Vanguard is a high elf who treats every form of conflict as one discipline. He can close with a blade, control the middle ground with techniques and force, or strike distant targets with weapons and radiant projections. His signature talent is seamless adaptation: he changes range, damage type, defense, and battlefield role without becoming dependent on a single weapon, spell school, or tactical pattern. Astral Vanguards are not flawless because they never fail; they are flawless in preparation, able to turn nearly any failure into a new angle of attack.

Spellcasting & Powers

None. The Astral Vanguard may produce extraordinary physical and radiant effects through disciplined technique, equipment, and personal force, but does not use spell slots or a spell list.

Multiclassing

A character may multiclass into Astral Vanguard with training in at least one martial weapon, one physical skill, and one combat-related defense. When multiclassing, gain Complete Armament for weapons and armor, but gain Vanguard Dice and Threefold Posture only if the character's new tier grants a class feature. Vanguard Dice from multiple sources do not stack.

All ordinary weapons, improvised weapons, light and heavy armor, shields, physical skills, survival skills, perception skills, and common tools. Choose two additional trained skills from any non-specialist skill list.

Training & Initiation

An initiate studies under several masters rather than a single tradition: a weapon instructor, a battlefield tactician, a survival guide, and a keeper of astral disciplines. The final trial requires solving a live combat scenario while protecting an assigned charge and adapting to changing terrain, enemy types, and available equipment. High elves often begin training in adolescence, but the doctrine accepts any person capable of disciplined adaptation.

Societal Perception

High elves often regard Astral Vanguards as the ideal expression of disciplined versatility, while other cultures may see them as intimidatingly perfect or dangerously difficult to predict. Soldiers respect their reliability, nobles seek their service, and traditional specialists sometimes resent their refusal to honor strict boundaries between martial and mystical practice.
