Battle-Mancers are brutal performers who transform combat into spectacle. Their weapons serve as instruments, each strike contributing to a rhythm of intimidation, inspiration, and supernatural violence. They whirl through the melee with dancer-like precision, turning momentum and bloodshed into magical power. A Battle-Mancer is neither a pure berserker nor a traditional spellcaster: they are a front-line half-caster who builds power by attacking, chaining maneuvers, and controlling the emotional rhythm of the battlefield.

Spellcasting & Powers

Half-caster. Battle-Mancers learn and cast spells from the Battle-Mancer spell list using Bloodsong as their primary resource. They may cast while wielding their chosen weapon, but not while silenced or unable to move their arms. Their casting test uses Performance plus the class’s normal magic modifier. At levels 1-3 they access First Measure spells; levels 4-7 Second Measure; levels 8-11 Third Measure; levels 12-15 Fourth Measure; and levels 16-20 Final Measure.

Thunderwave A concussive burst that turns a weapon strike into a shockwave.
Dissonant Whispers Fills a foe’s mind with the unbearable echo of battle.
Original Creation: Opening Note Original Creation: Mark one creature you hit; your next successful chain against it deals +1d6 damage.

Second Measure

Enhance Ability Turns an ally’s physical or social talent into a stronger performance.
Shatter Creates a destructive chord that damages creatures and objects.
Hold Person Freezes a humanoid in place as the Battle-Mancer strikes a dramatic pose.
Original Creation: Rallying Beat Original Creation: Allies in a short radius gain +10 to attacks and Morale tests for 1 minute.

Third Measure

Fear Projects the full emotional weight of the Battle-Mancer’s killing rhythm.
Haste Accelerates an ally’s movement into a blur of coordinated violence.
Dispel Magic Breaks hostile magic with a perfectly timed counterstrike.
Original Creation: Red Momentum Original Creation: For 1 minute, each takedown restores 1 Bloodsong, up to the caster’s normal maximum.

Fourth Measure

Confusion Overloads enemies with conflicting rhythms and false openings.
Freedom of Movement Lets an ally move through the battlefield with dancer-like certainty.
Greater Invisibility Makes the Battle-Mancer’s movements vanish between violent beats.
Original Creation: Battlefield Refrain Original Creation: Enemies in an area suffer -20 to attacks while allies gain +20 to Morale and Fear tests.

Final Measure

Mass Cure Wounds Converts the performance’s emotional intensity into restorative force.
Hold Monster Stops a powerful foe mid-motion beneath an impossible sustained note.
Destructive Wave Releases the accumulated violence of the entire performance.
Original Creation: Symphony of Ruin Original Creation: For 1 minute, each successful weapon hit sends a damaging shockwave to one additional enemy nearby.

Multiclassing

To multiclass into Battle-Mancer, meet the system’s normal requirements for Might or Agility, Performance, and a martial weapon skill. When multiclassing out, Bloodsong maximum is based only on Battle-Mancer levels; Battle Dance uses are not gained from partial advancement unless the campaign’s normal multiclass rules grant subclass features.

Proficiencies

Trained with martial weapons, shields, light armor, medium armor, Performance, and one of Acrobatics, Athletics, Intimidation, or Warfare. Battle-Mancers are trained to use their chosen weapon as a magical focus.

Training & Initiation

A candidate must learn a weapon form, a performance tradition, and the discipline of converting pain into rhythm. Initiation commonly involves surviving a full combat while maintaining a continuous Battle Dance, then forging or claiming a signature weapon that can carry the initiate’s personal cadence. Masters judge not only victory, but whether the initiate can inspire allies without losing control to bloodlust.‍

Societal Perception

Common people often find Battle-Mancers exhilarating and frightening in equal measure. Soldiers respect their ability to restore morale, nobles hire them as champions, and religious authorities may condemn their celebration of violence. In many regions, a Battle-Mancer’s arrival is treated as either a sign of hope or a warning that bloodshed is imminent.
