Clockwork Bolt Original Creation: A precise force projectile that rewards Advantage with a flat accuracy bonus.
Detect Magic Reveals the magical structure and properties of nearby objects and effects.
Identify Analyzes the functions and magical properties of an object or spell.

2nd-Level Construction

Animate Automaton Original Creation: Animates a clockwork figure into a temporary construct ally.

3rd-Level Overcharge

4th-Level Defense

Reactive Plating Original Creation: Reduces incoming damage with interlocking force plates and can grant resistance.
Fabricate Rapidly converts raw materials into finished nonmagical objects through engineered transmutation.
Otiluke's Resilient Sphere Encases a creature in a protective field of layered force.
Summon Construct Calls forth a durable magical construct suited to sustained field operations.

5th-Level Mastery

Mainspring Detonation Original Creation: Releases stored mechanical tension in a force burst that pushes creatures and destroys exposed mechanisms.
Disintegrate Applies overwhelming destructive force to a creature or object with exacting finality.
Animate Objects Turns unattended objects into a coordinated mechanical-style assault force.
Wall of Force Builds an invisible, highly reliable barrier for containment and battlefield geometry.

Multiclassing

A character multiclassing into Wizard follows the standard Wizard multiclassing requirements and rules. This subclass grants no additional proficiencies beyond those listed in its features.

Wizard spellcasting, Arcana, and tinker's tools. Mechanists are commonly trained in magical engineering, repair work, magical materials, and controlled experimentation.

Training & Initiation

Aspiring Mechanists apprentice in an Innovation Hollows workshop, where they learn spell theory beside artificers, Gearforged, and technicians. Initiation requires building a functional magical device, documenting its failure modes, and safely storing a spell in an unattended object. Senior Mechanists then assign the apprentice a field calibration, usually involving a damaged relay, unstable instrument, or prototype device.

Societal Perception

Ordinary people often find Mechanists reassuring when a bridge, ward, or magical tool needs repair, but unsettling when their devices begin humming near crowded streets. Merchants value their precision, traditional wizards sometimes dismiss them as overreliant on machinery, and authorities watch them carefully because a calibrated object can hide dangerous magic in plain sight.
