Multiclassing

To multiclass into Kitsunebi Votary, meet the system's normal hybrid-class requirements and possess either training in a Spirit, Arcana, Performance, or Deception skill or a meaningful bond with a fox spirit. When multiclassing out, Ember Points and Spectral Tails advance only through Kitsunebi Votary levels. Other classes may use their own primary ability for shared effects unless an ability specifically requires the Votary's primary ability.

Proficiencies

Trained in light armor, unarmed attacks, simple weapons, spirit lore, and one additional social or wilderness skill group. Gain either a charm, shrine token, or personal keepsake as a symbolic focus, though class abilities do not require it.

Training & Initiation

Training begins with service at a fox shrine, where the student learns etiquette, meditation, dance-like footwork, spirit lore, and controlled heat exercises. Initiation requires spending one night beside a sacred flame and receiving a voluntary sign from a fox spirit. The final rite is called the First Tail: the candidate protects a flame without touching it while answering a spirit's questions honestly. Those accepted awaken their first spectral tail and form a lifelong pact with the Nine-Tailed Fox Goddess.

Societal Perception

Ordinary people often regard Kitsunebi Votaries with a mixture of fascination and caution. They are welcomed as healers, shrine guardians, entertainers, and exorcists, but feared in regions where fox spirits are associated with deception or dangerous wildfire. Most communities consider a polite Votary good luck near a hearth and very bad luck to betray.
