Thane

Inderfrey Thanes are armored war-leaders who turn personal courage into battlefield authority. They hold the line through pain, direct loyal huskarls with precise commands, and punish enemies who threaten their people. A Thane has no spells; their power comes from discipline, reputation, shield-work, and the unbreakable bond between commander and warband. Mechanically, the class is a high-power tank that controls enemy attention, protects allies through reactions and positioning, and deploys a small cadre of durable huskarls.

Multiclassing

Ability Score Minimum: Strength 13 or Constitution 13. When multiclassing into Thane, you gain proficiency with light armor, medium armor, heavy armor, shields, simple weapons, and martial weapons. You do not gain Warrior of the Hall artisan’s tools or gaming set proficiencies.

Armor: all armor and shields. Weapons: simple weapons and martial weapons. Tools: artisan’s tools of your choice and one gaming set. Saving Throws: Strength and Constitution. Languages: none granted by the class.

Training & Initiation

A Thane is forged through years of shield drills, weapon practice, endurance training, clan law, and command exercises. Initiation usually requires leading a household through a dangerous trial while accepting responsibility for every participant. The final rite is often a public oath before the community the candidate intends to protect.

Societal Perception

Ordinary people often see a Thane as a shield made flesh: reassuring during war, intimidating during peace. Villages may welcome a disciplined household, while free towns and rival nobles may fear the class’s influence, private armies, and uncompromising sense of obligation.
