Cinderfall Archive
The dead remember every name, and the archive still keeps their accounts.
This ruined complex was once a working archive and chamber of civic record, later repurposed by desperate occultists who tried to hide forbidden rites beneath its shelves. Now the lower halls lie half-collapsed and half-haunted, with predators nesting among the relics and a buried power still stirring behind locked doors.
Cold draughts crawl through cracked stone halls, carrying the smell of dust, old ink, and damp rot. Faint echoes of dripping water and settling masonry make every footstep sound like an intruder's mistake, while guttering lantern-light or spellglow throws long, nervous shadows across fallen statues and broken shelves.
☠ Threat
At the heart of the ruin lingers the bound warden-lich Sereth Vol, a former seal-keeper who fused his spirit to the archive's wards to keep a forbidden ledger from leaving the vault. His power is not at full strength, but the surviving protections, corpse-servitors, and trapped corridors enforce his will, and every disturbance risks awakening the deeper bindings that still hold him together.
History
The complex began as a civic archive built by masons of the old city to store tax rolls, treaties, and burial records. When plague and war stripped the city thin, a circle of desperate scribes and wardens sealed away their most dangerous ledgers and relics below the library stacks, then vanished. Over generations the upper levels collapsed, the seal failed in pieces, and scavengers, cultists, and grave-things claimed the ruin.
Encounter Table
CRMold-white bats that roost in the ceiling cracks and attack only when startled.
A forgotten record-keeper's corpse that shambles while clutching a bundle of wet ledgers.
A spectral desk lamp flame that drifts ahead of intruders, luring them toward hazards.
A prowling corpse hound with archive tags tangled in its ribs.
Rumours & Whispers
The ruin's lower halls were once a city archive where tax records and funeral names were kept under holy lock.
A blue light sometimes flickers from the hill at midnight, and anyone who follows it hears a man counting names.
Bandits who entered through the old west door never came back, but their torches were found neatly stacked outside.
Old-timers say there is a hidden vault beneath the library that even the priests refused to open.

Corridor Notes
Collapsed archways are braced with splintered beams, and old chisel marks show where the builders tried to widen the passage after the ruin began to sink.
A thin seam of pale moss climbs the walls near the floor, slick with moisture and faintly luminous in darkness.
Broken marble tiles form a raised line in the corridor, as if something heavy was dragged toward the deeper rooms long ago.
The air grows noticeably colder and carries a faint metallic tang near the concealed access to the treasure chamber.
