Gkerrit's Wolfskull

Black water trembles in a stone basin while fresh claw marks split the walls beside the wolf-skull arch.

3 roomslairmedium

Carved beneath a wolf-skull arch, this compact cave lair combines a careful hunter's study with a savage sleeping den. Its owner has used the chambers as both refuge and ritual ground, leaving maps, weapons, bones, and old runes behind. The locked shrine holds the key to understanding why the werewolf's transformations have grown worse.

Cold blue-grey light filters through ceiling cracks and lays narrow bands across the stone. The air smells of wet limestone, old fur, lamp oil, and iron, while distant scratching travels through the walls and faint runes break under dust and claw damage.

☠ Threat

Gkerrit Vale is a skilled hunter afflicted with a hereditary werewolf curse that worsens whenever the shrine is fed fresh blood. He is not mindlessly savage, but each transformation erases more of his restraint, and he has begun marking travelers on his maps as future prey. If cornered, he may deliberately break the shrine's seal and unleash a violent frenzy.

History

The chambers began as a quarry shelter cut by miners clearing a vein of blue limestone from the hillside. Decades later, a wolf cult widened the refuge and set its skull-shaped entrance as a warning to trespassers. When the cult vanished, hunters used the study as a watch post until Gkerrit Vale, a cursed tracker, claimed the cave and rebuilt it as a private lair.

A low shelf of split antler pegs holds strips of dried meat, spare leather cord, and a chipped lantern. One hook is empty, and fresh blood darkens the stone beneath it.

A narrow ceiling crack admits a shaft of daylight and a steady drip of mineral water. The wet patch makes the floor slick near the locked door to Room 3.
