The Cartographer's Keel

Amber lights flicker across the docking hall, and the empty cradle hangs open on the stars.

8 roomsSpace Stationmedium

The Cartographer's Keel is a derelict sky-station built into the hollow remains of a colossal voidship. Its sealed chambers preserve navigation charts, ritual machinery, and the remnants of a crew that vanished after discovering something moving between the stars. The station is still powered, and its failing engine has begun calling that presence back.

The station smells of cold metal, burnt incense, and stale air trapped for centuries. Dim amber crystals flicker behind cracked glass, gravity shudders without warning, and distant pipes click as if something is counting down. Every chamber carries a faint vibration from the dead star engine below.

☠ Threat

The station's dying beacon has awakened the Far Listener, a star-born intelligence bound beneath the command shrine. It now speaks through reflections, dead crewmen, and the station's machinery, promising safe passage while trying to open a permanent gate. The Listener's vessel is the former station-master Odran Kvez, whose preserved body now serves as the boss in room-4.

History

The station was built by the Keelwrights' Astral Guild, a trade fellowship of shipwrights, navigators, and crystal engineers. They hollowed out an ancient voidship and used it as a waystation for merchant routes beyond the moon. The guild's last master, Odran Kvez, ordered the station sealed after the crew found a living signal hidden inside a star chart.

Quest Hooks

1
The Route That Eats ShipsInvestigation

Quest giver: Kutzan Pell, a broad-shouldered caravan pilot whose trade is carrying sky-freight between remote towers.

A merchant vessel vanished while following a route copied from a fragment of the station's navigation charts. The party must enter the station, recover the missing route, and destroy whatever beacon caused the disappearance.

A skyship passage deed, 250 gold pieces, and an uncommon compass that points toward the nearest safe landing.

2
The Blinking StarRescue

Quest giver: Izel of the Upper Steps, an apprentice astronomer known by her place of origin rather than a family name.

A star-watcher's apprentice has begun drawing the same blinking constellation seen through room-2's observation slits. She believes the pattern is a distress call, but the party may discover it is an invitation.

A crystal star lens granting advantage on one navigation or Arcana check per day.

3
Guild PropertyExpedition

Quest giver: Bárbara Quispe, a careful guild factor with a long family ledger and a short temper.

The guild's descendants want the station reclaimed before rival salvagers strip it for parts. They do not know that the station's engine is still active or that its master may still be alive.

Salvage rights to the station's harmless components and an uncommon suit of voidwalking armor.

Corridor Notes

Main corridors between Room 1, Room 2, and Room 4

Copper guide-lines run along the walls, each marked with tiny trade sigils used by the station's original navigators.

The corridor outside Room 3

Several observation slits reveal a field of unmoving stars, though one star occasionally blinks in a deliberate pattern.

The passage leading toward Room 6

Emergency alcoves contain empty crystal breathing masks and faded instructions engraved in three languages.

The lower route between Room 2 and Room 5

Loose gravity-stones drift ankle-high whenever the station's engine pulses.
