Ashen Keep
The dead household still waits behind the locked doors.
The Ashen Keep is a ruined castle whose lower chambers survived long after its towers collapsed. Its sealed heart still shelters a dead lord who has learned to command the castle's wards, traps, and restless servants.
Cold, stale air presses through the castle like a held breath. Damp stone smells of rust, candle grease, and old blood, while distant chains clink whenever the unseen presence in the lower keep stirs. Pale green light leaks from cracked warding runes, leaving corners unnaturally dark.
☠ Threat
Lord Halvek Veyr, now a wight bound to an iron crown, rules the sealed lower keep from room-4. He uses the castle's old defenses to isolate intruders, sending animated armor and corpse-servants through the corridors while the shrine's desecrated magic slowly spreads. Destroying his body is not enough unless the crown is broken or purified.
History
The Ashen Keep was built by House Veyr to guard a mountain pass and shelter its people during war. Lord Halvek Veyr later converted the lower keep into a private chapel and crypt, seeking immortality through forbidden rites. When the ritual failed, he sealed the castle, sacrificed his household, and bound the fortress wards to his own dying will.
Encounter Table
CRA headless suit of armor patrols the halls, carrying a rusted lantern that burns with green fire.
A swarm of pale bats pours from ceiling cracks, their wings marked with tiny black eyes.
A former servant drags a silver tray through the corridors, offering ash-filled goblets before attacking anyone who refuses.
Rumours & Whispers
The ruined keep's bells ring at midnight even though its tower collapsed generations ago.
A noble family will pay handsomely for the signet of House Veyr, but no one agrees whether the family ended with Lord Halvek.
Travelers who sleep near the castle dream of a feast where every guest has a familiar face and no one has a mouth.
The old shrine still burns with a blue flame that can command the dead to kneel.
A sealed chamber beneath the keep contains a crown that whispers the names of future kings.
