Veyran Crypt
The dead were meant to rest here, but someone taught them to guard and hunger.
This small crypt was built for a noble bloodline that feared dying with its secrets intact. Its outer halls still serve as a burial complex, but the deeper chambers have been taken over by a corpse-bound guardian and the rites that keep it awake.
Cold air pools in the stone passages, carrying the stink of old incense, wet earth, and grave mold. Faint chanting seems to rise and fall from behind sealed doors, mixed with the scrape of bone against stone and the occasional drip of black water. Lanternlight gutters strangely here, as if the crypt itself is breathing through the walls.
☠ Threat
A corpse-bound warden, sustained by illicit funerary rites and the stolen essence of the buried, dominates the lower crypt. It commands lesser undead and twisted attendants, punishing intruders who disturb the old seals. If the shrine candles are left burning, the guardian grows stronger and the dead become harder to rest.
History
The crypt was raised by House Veyran to inter generations of heirs, priests, and war captains beneath a single sanctified roof. When plague swept through the region, the family sealed the lower shrine and performed forbidden rites to preserve their dead. The rites worked too well, binding a guardian spirit to the tomb and waking the buried with a hunger for offerings.
