Marrow-Grip Catacombs
The heavy scent of damp earth hides the stirrings of the restless dead.
A series of claustrophobic, interconnected burial chambers carved into the granite roots of the mountain. Faint, blue bioluminescent fungi cling to the walls, casting a sickly glow over the scattered bones of ancient warriors.
The air is chillingly cold and smells of wet stone and old decay. Distant, rhythmic scraping sounds echo through the halls, punctuated by the occasional sound of crumbling masonry. Dim, flickering light comes from patches of ghost-mold.
☠ Threat
The Pale Rot, a sentient necrotic contagion that manifests as a sickly white mold covering the walls and the undead alike. It is guided by the Knight-Commander's fractured spirit, who believes the living are invaders seeking to steal the holy relics of his order. The rot attempts to infect any living creature that lingers too long in the darkness.
History
Originally built during the Second Era to inter the Knight-Protectors of the Realm, the catacombs were blessed to keep the dead at rest. However, a local necromancer's failed ritual cracked the central sanctum, allowing a creeping corruption to seep into the soil. Now, the once-noble guardians rise as mindless husks, bound to the site by a lingering, malignant will that refuses to fade.
