The Hollow Sepulcher
Silence is a heavy shroud where the dead refuse to rest.
A sprawling subterranean burial complex carved from damp, grey limestone and plagued by necrotic energy. Narrow passages connect vaulted chambers where the air is thick with the scent of ozone and ancient dust. Faint blue bioluminescent fungi cling to the walls, casting a ghostly light on the shattered remains of a noble lineage.
The temperature is cold enough to see your breath and the air reeks of wet earth and wet copper. High-pitched scraping sounds echo from the darkness, accompanied by the rhythmic dripping of stagnant water. Light is scarce, provided only by rare patches of flickering blue moss that makes shadows seem to move on their own.
☠ Threat
Lord Malakor Valerius, a Wight with an unquenchable thirst for dominion over the living. His presence exerts a chilling aura that animates any who die within these walls and prevents them from passing into the afterlife. He seeks to reclaim his family's lost status by raising a skeletal army from the surrounding countryside to march upon the living world. While he remains active, undead within the sepulcher gain a relentless focus, making them nearly impossible to turn or frighten.
History
Built three centuries ago for the House of Valerius, a noble line rumored to have practiced forbidden necromancy to maintain their political grip. When the family line was mysteriously extinguished in a single night, the sepulcher was sealed with lead and silver to contain their spirits. Recently, grave robbers broke the primary seals, awakening the lingering curse of the Valerius patriarch who now calls his kin to rise from their slumber. The tomb has become a localized rift between the material plane and the Shadowfell.
