The Whispering Vault
The candles burn with the memories of those who cannot sleep.
A small, sunken stone vault hidden beneath a cluster of overgrown briars in the woods. Its air is heavy with the scent of aged wax and dry earth, echoing with a faint, rhythmic humming.
The temperature drops significantly upon entry. Blue-tinted candlelight casts long, distorted shadows, and the air smells like ozone and ancient linen.
☠ Threat
The restless spirit of the Valerius scion acts as a sentinel over the crypt. It does not seek to conquer but to ensure the silence of the vault remains unbroken. Anyone entering is viewed as a common thief, and the vault itself seems to react to their presence by flaring its blue candles whenever a heart beats too loudly.
History
Originally the private tomb for the Valerius merchant family, it was intended to protect their remains from grave robbers during a period of civil unrest. The last scion was buried with a family heirloom that allegedly held the power to speak with the dead. Over the decades, the latent magic of the vault has stirred the spirits of those buried within, creating a self-sustaining cycle of undeath and blue-flame candlelight.
Encounter Table
CRA dark, humanoid shape that detaches from the wall's shadows.

Rumours & Whispers

The crypt isn't just a tomb; it is a seal holding back a much older darkness.
