Valehook Smuggler Caves
The mountain remembers every secret carried through its dark veins.
The old smuggler caves descend through a mountain riddled with natural chambers, abandoned workrooms, and concealed routes. What began as a safe haven for contraband has become a haunted maze where something patient and hungry has awakened in the deepest vault.
Cold mountain air moves through the tunnels in slow breaths, carrying wet stone, lamp oil, and the sour stink of old blood. Pale mineral veins glimmer in the walls, while distant drips, shifting gravel, and occasional metallic knocks make the abandoned caves feel watched.
☠ Threat
The deepest chamber is ruled by Garran Valehook, the last smuggler captain, now transformed into a wraith bound to the mountain by a stolen funerary relic. He commands shadows, animated tools, and the cave's old warning bells. Garran wants living trespassers to reopen the sealed route so his spirit can escape into the settlements below.
History
Two centuries ago, the Valehook Company carved these caves into an ancient network of mountain passages. Smugglers used the upper chambers as a hidden depot, while the deeper tunnels served a vanished cult that promised safe passage through the mountain in exchange for blood and secrets. When the cult's final master disappeared, the routes were sealed and abandoned.

Corridor Notes
Rusty iron rings and rotted rope remain bolted into the walls, marking old hauling routes used to move contraband deeper into the mountain.
Faded chalk arrows point toward the treasure chambers, though several have been deliberately altered to lead travelers toward dead ends.
Thin streams of black water run along carved channels in the floor, gathering near doors that descend toward the deeper caves.
Old smuggler lanterns hang from hooks at irregular intervals. Some flare blue when living creatures pass beneath them.
