The Third Tileworks
Blue and ochre workers stare down from the cracked ceiling, their painted hands still pointing toward the deeper halls.
The Third Tileworks is a collapsed royal workshop built into a low limestone ridge. Its surviving halls contain cracked kilns, painted mosaics, forgotten cells, and a sealed chamber where the master craftswoman's prized creation still guards the old treasury. The ruins are dangerous, but bright relics and a chance to restore a beloved town landmark draw bold adventurers inside.
Dry dust hangs in the air, mixed with the mineral smell of old clay and rain trapped in cracked stone. Pale daylight reaches the entrance, while deeper rooms glow with greenish light from hardy moss and glittering shards of glazed tile. Every distant scrape echoes through the ruin, followed by the occasional clatter of falling masonry.
☠ Threat
The main danger is Kett's kiln guardian, a squat clay automaton reinforced with bronze bands and fired around a heart of enchanted glaze. It now protects the treasury in room-5 and treats every intruder as a thief. Its commands have degraded, causing it to stir whenever the traps in rooms 1, 2, or 7 are disturbed, sending tremors through the ruin and attracting lesser creatures.
History
The Third Tileworks was built by the royal brickwright guild to produce weatherproof tiles, drainage pipes, and bright civic mosaics. Master craftswoman Nabila Kett supervised its final years, when she commissioned a clay-and-bronze guardian to protect the guild's treasury during a border war. The workshop was abandoned after a hillside collapse buried its upper kilns, leaving only its numbered lower halls accessible.
