Joined Ledger Crypt
Blue candles burn above the locked door, and every plaque in the receiving hall bears a name scratched away.
The crypt of the Joined Ledger was built beneath a vanished mortuary guild and now serves as a sealed prison for its last master. Its upper chambers hold records, tools, and failed safeguards, while the lower vaults contain traps designed to delay grave robbers and feed the guardian's strength. Every unlocked door brings the intruders closer to a tomb that should never be opened.
Cold dust clings to the tongue, mixed with lamp oil, old incense, and the sweet rot of sealed graves. Water ticks somewhere below the flagstones, while faint scraping sounds travel through the walls whenever the crypt's guardian stirs. Most rooms are lit only by blue corpse-candles that burn without heat.
☠ Threat
Tazek Quill, once the guildmaster of the Joined Ledger, now inhabits a lacquered funerary shell beneath room-13. He commands corpse-candles, animates the dead, and uses the crypt's whisper tubes to learn intruders' names. He is not fully undead by ordinary means, and every trap triggered above sends a pulse of stolen vitality into his sealed chamber.
History
The crypt was built by the Joined Ledger, a mortuary guild formed when the Bonewriters and Bellkeepers were forced into one business after a costly feud. They stored bodies, wills, and disputed inheritances below the city, guarded by bells, ledgers, and mechanical traps. Guildmaster Tazek Quill sought immortality through embalming rites, became a deathless corpse, and was sealed below by his own apprentice.
Encounter Table

Rumours & Whispers
The old mortuary doors open by themselves whenever someone in town dies without a will.
A bell rings beneath the streets at midnight, and those who hear it dream of names carved into bone.
A family paid grave robbers to recover a signet from the crypt, but the robbers returned without their shadows.
The crypt was not built as a tomb. It was built as a vault for debts, and some debts are still being collected.
An apprentice sealed the guildmaster below and hid the only key in a room full of stolen offerings.

Quest giver: Tarek Voss, a worn-in stonemason who has inherited the burial claim.

The town's old bell has begun ringing at midnight even though its rope was removed years ago. The sound matches the warning bell described in the crypt's records.
A warding charm against undead and the town's lasting gratitude.
Corridor Notes
Small iron bowls are mortared into the walls at shoulder height. Each contains a corpse-candle that flares when a living creature passes, then gutters after one minute.
A line of shallow footprints crosses the dust, stops at a blank wall, and resumes several feet away. The prints are too narrow for boots and end in three clawed toes.
Funeral plaques have been pried from the walls and stacked behind loose stones. Several bear fresh fingerprints in grave dust.
Thin copper tubes run through the ceiling, carrying whispers from deeper chambers. A listener hears fragments of prayers, names, and occasional warnings.
